MicroMain Donates Maintenance Management Software to SafePlace

(August 12, 2003) AUSTIN, TX — MicroMain Corporation, a leading provider of asset and facility management software and services, today announced that it is continuing its support of SafePlace, a domestic violence and sexual assault survival center in Austin, Texas, by providing SafePlace with upgraded software and support services.

MicroMain began donating software and services to SafePlace in 2001, including a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), msATRAK™ module for asset tracking, msMOBILE™ module for PDA-based work orders and inspections, and msWEB™ module for service requests via the Internet. MicroMain has also provided training for the maintenance staff and additional support services. The company is continuing its support of SafePlace with the donation of upgraded software including MicroMain XM™, the newly branded release 6.0 of its CMMS.

“We are looking forward to using MicroMain XM because the new version now includes fleet functionality,” said Gil Crane, Facility Manager at SafePlace. “SafePlace has ten vehicles, and will now be able to schedule preventive tasks and improve our ongoing maintenance of those vehicles. We moved from a handwritten paper work order system when we began using MicroMain’s CMMS, and the improvement has been great.”

In addition to streamlining maintenance operations and improving preventive maintenance scheduling, Crane said that the facilities department has been able to respond more quickly to SafePlace staff and client needs. The msWEB module, for example, has allowed SafePlace staff to request maintenance work and check on work status via the Internet—which has proven to be a significant time-saver for both the staff and for the facilities department.

“One of the biggest benefits in using the MicroMain XM suite is that the history and costing of work orders allows me to do a much better job with budgeting," Crane said. “Any dollars and time saved can be used for more client services."

The SafePlace facility in Austin consists of a 24,000-square-foot resource center, a 40-unit supportive housing apartment community, 122 beds of emergency shelter, an onsite school, and a child development center. In addition to providing crisis services for persons surviving sexual or domestic violence, SafePlace provides services related to long-term support and advocacy. The center also provides school-based services, supports several community education efforts, and collaborates with many other organizations.

“We are grateful for donations such as MicroMain Corporation’s maintenance software and services that enable our center’s infrastructure to run smoothly,” said Kelly White, Executive Director at SafePlace. “Donations like this allow us to stretch our budget further in providing critical services to survivors of rape, domestic violence and sexual violence in the Austin area.”
